About
Welcome to The Massage Barn
Therapy for all, perfect for you, tailored to your individual needs.
Welcome
‘The Massage Barn’ has really enjoyed its growth and time at Glebe Farm, Astbury, Cheshire and is now located in the picturesque little town of Biddulph, Staffordshire Moorlands, known as the garden town of Staffordshire. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside, set in a valley between the hills of Biddulph Moor and Mow Cop castle. It is situated near the centre of town amongst a lovely community of shops and other small businesses selling local produce, products and services. Close to the Peak District, walkers visit Biddulph for a welcomed rest and a traditional oatcake! There are also many visitors to our lovely Biddulph Grange to see the landscaped gardens. ‘The Massage Barn’ allows for perfect relaxation with a view of the surrounding hills while you rest on the massage bed. There is a cosy and comfortable seating area for consultation and complimentary herbal teas, decaf coffees, mineral water and juices to enjoy before and after treatment. Private changing, toilet and washing facilities are available. When you arrive, you will be asked to slip your tired feet into a pair of spa slippers and you will be taken to the treatment room for your chosen massage. Enjoy!
About Me
MY CAREER
Previous to being a massage therapist, I worked in customer service and medical administration for the NHS. I had always enjoyed being in a medical environment but it wasn’t without its stresses and strains. While taking a much-needed holiday, I had my very first massage experience with a Balinese lady which ultimately changed my life.
I was intrigued as to how this lady, who I had never met before, knew so much about my health and wellbeing simply by manipulating her hands around my body, pinpointing the problem, and relieving my pain.
I set about researching the benefits of complementary medicine for health and wellbeing. I decided to train in sports massage therapy learning everything I could about anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology of the body. I gained work experience at the college I was taught and was offered a job at Manchester Therapy Centre. During this time my focus developed more towards stress and pain relief and relaxation through massage for improving the health and wellbeing of my clients and I trained in other massage therapies building on this ethos. I will be forever grateful for the encounter I had with the Balinese lady. It is very rewarding to be able to give my clients the same amazing care and it is with this commitment I have opened my own massage therapy business which I am proud of today.
FHT
As a fully qualified UK therapist, I am a member of ‘The Federation Of Holistic Therapists’ (MFHT) giving me professional status and recognition. The FHT has been established for more than 50 years and is the leading association for professional therapists in the UK. They can be found at fht.org.uk, facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram. I am listed on the FHT ‘Accredited Register’ for all therapists approved by the ‘Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care’.
I follow the FHT ‘Code of Conduct and Professional Practice’ which defines and guides me through the high standards expected of me as a member. It helps me run my business safely with my tailor-made therapists insurance policy for all my therapies.
I have a yearly training congress and conference, seminars and events and access to professional resources. I am kept up to date with exciting industry news by the FHT ‘International Therapist’ magazine and receive regular e-updates. Every year I maintain and develop my skills with the FHT ‘Continuing Professional Development’ courses to ensure I am working effectively as possible within the scope of my practice.
As a member of the FHT It is really nice to be a part of a large therapy community and meet like-minded therapists. They represent and protect my interests as a professional therapist which definitely supports my business and benefits my clients.
MY BUSINESS
The Massage Barn’ is an independent small business operating solely by myself. I am a fully qualified massage therapist and a professional member of the ‘Federation of Holistic Therapists’ taking care of insurance for all my therapies and business needs. I provide quality massage therapies and health and wellbeing advice to adult women in a relaxing and caring setting. I cater for a diverse clientele specialising purely in massage. A daily appointment schedule might include a client with pregnancy discomfort, a client with occupational aches and pains, an elderly client with mobility issues, a client wanting to enhance their physical fitness and performance, a client suffering with an illness, or simply a client needing stress relief and a nice pamper.
The massage industry has grown rapidly over the last ten years with increasing respect and understanding of the benefits of massage from other professionals integrating massage into their treatment plans, such as GP’s, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, and Osteopaths. Good health and wellbeing are important to prevent an accumulation of stresses on the body which are known to cause illness. I am proud to be able to help my clients with all sorts of physical, physiological, psychological, and emotional problems through massage.
